Apple Pointing To Tech Breakdown?

Shares of Apple led the tech rally earlier this year, with the stock hitting record high after record high.

But, recently, Apple has lagged the Nasdaq. To many investors that doesn’t seem like cause for concern; they say it's consolidation. But Fast trader Steve Cortes of Veracruz isn’t like most investors. He’s worried.

"Apple has been the Atlas of the market," says Cortes during a live interview on CNBC's Fast Money. "But since earnings on October 18th Apple has gone up only 2% while Google - another huge Nasdaq component - is down 2%."

"Together Apple and Google make up 25% of the Nasdaq 100 – and together they’re sideways. However the broad Nasdaq is up 7% over the same time, he says, and historically that relationship is unsustainable."

In other words, according to Cortes's thesis, something’s gotta’ give. Either Apple and Google are lagging and will play catch up or the Nasdaq is ahead of itself. He thinks it's the latter.

”When the two most important generals of the army get shot, you have to worry,” Cortes says.
